Moore Squared Communications and The Maturity Institute are delighted to invite you to the launch of The Investment Credibility Index.
We understand the emphasis asset managers put on financial metrics. But a relentless focus on the bottom line fails to account for the impact on the humans at the heart of the business.
By assessing human characteristics such as a company’s decision-making process and its innovation, the Investment Credibility Index assesses a company’s ability to create total stakeholder value.
Total stakeholder value moves beyond shareholder value by providing this assessment of how well a company manages its human capital – is this something to be sacrificed to protect the bottom line or is it vital contributor to long-term financial health?
The methodology underpinning The Investment Credibility Index has been developed and refined over the past 10 years. Originally conceived in collaboration with S&P, it assesses organisations against 32 factors which causally connect people to value. These include purpose, decision-making, learning, innovation and organisational capability.
The framework has been tested both academically, through collaboration with Cambridge Judge Business School, and in practice. Within investment management, it has been applied extensively by fund managers and equity research teams, providing a deeper understanding of the organisational drivers of long-term performance and sustainable value creation.
Rather than focusing solely on shareholder returns, total stakeholder value evaluates how organisations invest in and manage their human capital. It recognises sustainable financial performance is built by people—through investment decision-making, client relationships, risk management, innovation and organisational culture.
This is not a virtue-signalling exercise. Asset owners are increasingly seeking managers that create enduring value for clients, employees and shareholders alike. Creating total stakeholder value represents a shift away from short-term transactional thinking towards building resilient organisations and long-term client partnerships.
It is people who make investment decisions, communicate with clients, manage risk, respond to changing markets and deliver investment outcomes. A fund manager’s ability to create sustained value ultimately arises from the strength of its human system.
Creating total stakeholder value is a move away from a short-term transactional mindset towards creating long-term client partnerships.
At the event, Charlotte Moore will moderate a panel discussion on why asset managers need to look beyond the bottom line.Joining her will be Stuart Woollard, co-founder of The Maturity Institute, and Paul Lee, executive chair of the UK Endorsement Board, Chrystelle Charles-Barral, head of investment risk, managing director, Neuberger and Mark Johnson, managing director, L&G Asset Management UK.
We’ll start the discussion showing the asset managers in our universe have performed. We’ll then explore what distinguishes the top five firms from the bottom five. The panel will take a deeper dive into the methodology sitting behind The Investment Credibility Index and how total stakeholder value can be assessed. We’ll finish with why it’s important for asset managers to look beyond financial metrics.
