Autumn activity

December 1, 2025

This autumn has been a whirlwind! We’ve released new episodes of the podcast, interviewed Dan Mikulskis – CIO at People’s Partnership, provider of People’s Pension over breakfast. We also  held two new workshops and along with our latest sustainable investment event and found time to moderate events for others. We have a packed calendar of events scheduled for January 2026!

‘Adapting to the age of collaboration’ networking event

We had a strong turnout at the Betsey Trotwood earlier this month. Thirty showed up to discuss how asset managers and owners should adapt as the industry moves away from a transactional mindset and towards building partnerships.  A big thanks to our panellists – Phil Butler, deputy chief investment officer of People’s Partnership, Mitesh Sheth MBE − founder of OrgAlpha and ex-CEO of Redington, Steve Turner − partner and senior investment consultant at Mercer and Stuart Woollard, co-founder of The Maturity Institute. They shared candid insights while being relaxed and entertaining – as the photo shows! And congratulations to Natasha Moore for not being left out and sneaking onto the panel for a photo at the end! The next sustainable networking event will take place on Wednesday, 28th January – you can find more details below.

‘Understand your client’ workshop

Our ‘Understand your client’ workshop was well-received. We had a great group − embracing all our exercises with enthusiasm, laughing at our jokes and giving insightful responses to our questions. We enjoyed reviewing how the UK institutional landscape has changed, sharing our framework of how to better understand your clients and exploring the asset management competitive landscape. We are running our ‘Understand your clients’ workshop again at 4pm on Tuesday, 10 February. You can register further down.

‘Create client connection’ workshop

Once again our audience for our ‘Create client connection’ workshop tackled all the exercises we gave with enthusiasm. They shared sharp insights and played our tactics versus strategy game with gusto! We enjoyed exploring how building relationships with institutional investors has changed and exploring the asset management competitive landscape.

Making the UK a global innovator in retirement products

Dan Mikulskis, CIO of People’s Partnership, provider of the People’s Pension, is always full of ideas and optimism but he is positively enthusiastic about the opportunities creating a retirement income generates for master trusts. “It’s exciting. The UK has the potential to be a global innovator in retirement products,” he says, in my latest interview with him for Professional Pensions. I chatted to Dan over breakfast while we were both at Pensions UK’s annual conference in Manchester last month. He explains there are three factors driving this global innovation − the current level of market competition, the requirement for providers to offer a default retirement income and the maturity and scale of the UK DC market. In the article I discuss with Dan how he and his team are thinking about fulfilling the government’s desire for pension providers to ensure scheme members have a default retirement income.
